Green Street Housing, built upon the affordable housing development experience of David Layfield and Thomas Ayd, was founded in 2008. The company’s principals have over 30 years of combined experience in affordable housing development and residential real estate development. With a consistent and successful track record, the company has positioned itself to be an active player in the development of the new construction and the acquisition and rehabilitation of affordable housing in the Mid Atlantic.
David Layfield has many years of experience in the development of affordable housing, including programs like the Low Income Housing Tax Credit, USDA, Rural Development Section 515, 514, 516 and 538 housing, state financing programs in Maryland, Delaware and Virginia as well as private grant and loan programs. Over the last 25 years, he has participated in the development of more than 20 affordable apartment communities.
Thomas Ayd has been developing affordable housing for more than 10 years. Tom has a strong understanding of the LIHTC & USDA Rural Development programs, and other mechanisms for the new construction and preservation of affordable housing. Tom is focused on competitive analysis and the true evaluation of the likelihood of receiving competitive awards of 9% LIHTC. Tom has been instrumental in crafting policy and competitive scoring criteria in Maryland through his efforts with the Maryland Affordable Housing Coalition and is always fighting to ensure that funding preferences do not overlook rural areas. He is involved in every phase of the development process from prospecting, feasibility and planning, financing, construction oversight and asset management. Tom has built a systematic approach that ensures successful high quality results for the company.
